Navigating the Digital Landscape: What SEO Looks Like in the Age of AI
If you’ve been in business for a while, you’ll know just how much the digital landscape has changed.
And if you’re newer to business? Well… you’ve entered at a time where things are evolving faster than ever.
In a recent episode of the You’re the Boss podcast, I sat down with Wes Towers, founder of Uplift 360, to talk about exactly this—how SEO has evolved, what AI is really doing to digital marketing, and what business owners actually need to focus on now.
Because let’s be honest… it’s noisy out there.
It’s Not “Search Engine” Anymore
One of the biggest shifts Wes shared really stuck with me.
SEO used to be about Google. Rankings. Keywords.
Getting from page 2 to page 1.
Simple(ish).
But now?
It’s no longer just about search engines—it’s about search everywhere optimization.
People aren’t just Googling anymore. They’re asking AI tools like ChatGPT. They’re searching on social media. They’re getting answers instantly—often without even clicking through to a website.
And that changes everything.
Because visibility is no longer just about being “ranked.”
It’s about being recognised across the internet.
AI Is Changing How People Find You
I actually experienced this myself recently.
Someone booked a call with me out of nowhere. No LinkedIn conversation. No referral.
So I asked him, “How did you find me?”
His answer?
“I asked ChatGPT for the best personal brand consultants in Singapore… and you came up.”
That’s the shift in AI and digital marketing.
AI is now connecting the dots based on the content you’ve already put out into the world.
Which means this…
If there isn’t enough quality content about you online—AI has nothing to work with.
Content Still Matters (But the Bar Is Higher)
Here’s where a lot of people get it wrong.
They think, “AI is doing everything now, so content doesn’t matter as much.”
It’s actually the opposite.
Because yes—AI can generate content.
But it also means the internet is now flooded with generic, surface-level information.
So if you want to stand out?
You need to be:
Clear in what you do
Consistent in what you say
Distinct in how you say it
This is what drives personal brand visibility today.
Your perspective. Your opinions. Your way of explaining things.
That’s what cuts through.
Your Website Isn’t Dead (It’s Just Changed Role)
Another important point we discussed—your website is still essential.
But not for the same reason it used to be.
People might not discover you there anymore…
But they will absolutely go there to validate you.
To check:
Are you legit?
Do you actually know what you’re talking about?
Do I trust you?
So your website becomes your digital “home base.”
Not the only place people find you—but the place they go to confirm you.
So What Should You Actually Do?
If you’re wondering how to get found online in 2026, here’s what I’d focus on:
Start putting content out consistently (even if it’s not perfect)
Be clear on who you help and how
Share your thinking—not just information
Build your presence across multiple platforms (not just one)
Because the goal now isn’t just to “rank”…
It’s to be known.
