How Women Entrepreneurs Can Scale Their Business Without Burning Out
There’s a common belief among women in business that success only comes through working harder, doing more, and carrying everything ourselves. But what if the very habits that helped us build our business are now the exact things holding us back from growing it?
In a recent episode of the You're the Boss Podcast, I sat down with Fabienne Fredrickson to talk about business growth, delegation, and why so many women entrepreneurs struggle to scale without exhausting themselves in the process.
And honestly? This conversation hit home.
Fabienne’s entrepreneurial journey started over 25 years ago as a holistic nutritionist. Like many business owners in the early stages, she struggled to consistently attract clients. Instead of giving up, she developed her own client attraction system — a process that eventually became the foundation of her successful mentoring business.
What stood out most during our conversation was her reminder that building a successful business isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about creating systems that allow your business to grow beyond you.
One of the biggest challenges women entrepreneurs face is delegation.
Many of us have been conditioned to believe we need to prove ourselves by handling everything alone — from client work to admin tasks to family responsibilities. As Fabienne explained, women often carry “double jobs,” balancing invisible emotional and household labor alongside running a business.
The result? Burnout.
I could completely relate to this because I experienced it firsthand. There was a point in my own business where a shoulder injury forced me to step back from day-to-day operations. I didn’t have a choice — I had to trust my team more. What surprised me most was realizing the business didn’t fall apart. In fact, giving my team more ownership actually strengthened the business.
That’s the power of delegation.
Fabienne also shared one of the most important business concepts every entrepreneur should understand: the Pareto Principle, also known as the 80/20 rule.
Simply put, around 20% of your activities often generate 80% of your results.
When you identify which tasks truly move the needle in your business, you can stop wasting energy on low-impact work that drains your time and focus. Instead, you begin prioritizing revenue-generating activities while delegating, automating, or eliminating the rest.
This mindset shift is essential for scaling a business sustainably.
One of the most inspiring stories Fabienne shared was about a client undergoing cancer treatment whose business continued to grow while she stepped away from work. That level of business resilience only became possible because strong systems and support structures were already in place.
And that’s really the key takeaway here.
A successful business shouldn’t completely depend on the owner being involved in every single detail. Real business growth happens when you create systems, empower people, and allow the business to operate with consistency and clarity.
For women entrepreneurs especially, learning to let go of over-functioning isn’t weakness — it’s leadership.
If you want long-term success, growth, and freedom, the goal shouldn’t be to do more. The goal should be to build smarter.
