Ange Dove (00:01)
Okay, welcome to You're the Boss podcast show. And today I have a very special guest with me and he is Dr. Joseph Drolschagen. Actually, I'm gonna stop.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (00:15)
No, you did great. It was great. my God. I forgot that even I was gonna remind you and I forgot. You did awesome.
Ange Dove (00:23)
Drolshagen is your name, right? That's how I say it. Just as I read it, I'm going, my God, how do I say this? I should have asked before. All right, so I'll just edit that bit out. I'll start again, right? Welcome to You're the Boss podcast show. And today I have a very special guest with me and that is Dr. Joseph Drolshagen. And he is known as the rapid growth specialist. So he's combining his 20 plus year career in corporate America.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (00:25)
And yeah, yeah.
Ange Dove (00:53)
up to VP of Sales and his Doctorate in Psychology with extensive studies and knowledge of mindset. He has assisted multiple organisations experiencing bankruptcy back into profitability, along with creating innovative systems that bring about massive results, both personally and professionally. Now, using his subconscious mindset training, the SMT method, he helps business owners and sales professionals across America
align their conscious and subconscious mind with their vision, transforming self sabotaging behaviors while linking accelerating habits that lead to greater success. So Joseph, welcome to the show.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (01:37)
It's great to be here with you, Ange. I'm excited.
Ange Dove (01:38)
It's
so wonderful to have you here. And we're talking about a subject that I am really interested in, this difference between the conscious and the subconscious mind. I've done a lot of research into this myself. It's helped me a lot in my business. And I know this is going to bring so much value to people listening. So explain to me what it's all about. What is it that you really do?
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (02:09)
Yeah, so what what I do is I help people if you if you look at somebody who's a business owner and I and I've gone through this myself too and and what's taken me three decades to figure out 'cause my life was broken, is is now what I get to help people do and really shortcut that decades of time. You know, what took me years now it takes people
Ange Dove (02:25)
Yeah, yeah, we don't want to take
three decades.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (02:28)
Right, right, right. It takes weeks. So but really what it is
is it you know, you have somebody who who doesn't want to be in the hustle bustle, they don't wanna be in the nine to five, things like that, and they wanna break out of it, and so they get an idea of what they wanna do, right? And then typically from there there's excitement with that and then they build they build the strategies, they build their their business plan, they do all the stuff there and then they start moving out and taking the actions into it and everything else, right? And they'll get going so far to some point and all of a sudden it's like they hit a ceiling or hit a wall with it.
Ange Dove (02:51)
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (02:57)
And so what what do we typically do in that scenario is we try harder. We push more, right? We put more hours in, we do different things and stuff. But what's happening there is we have things in the subconscious programming.
Ange Dove (03:03)
Yeah. Yeah.
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (03:11)
the
and and we know that eighty five percent of the results we experience in our life are coming from that programming. So there's things in that programming that are that are working against us. And so what happens is that subconscious is what triggers brain waves to the actions we take or we don't take. Okay. Yeah.
Ange Dove (03:17)
Hmm.
Right.
Okay, so just to go back a little bit on that, if anyone's
just not familiar with this topic at all, what do you mean by programming in this sense?
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (03:40)
look for me, I had an opportunity at twenty two years old to take over a million dollar construction company and I didn't have to go get a loan for it. We were just gonna do like a a six year residual share on revenue to pay for it or whatever. Okay. Within three days, that was the biggest moment of my life at that time to take over a million, you know, over a million dollar company and and and three days later I told him I I couldn't accept it. I couldn't do it.
Ange Dove (03:46)
Right. Yeah.
Right. OK.
Yeah, it's huge.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (04:05)
And it took me months
to figure out why it was. And what it was is is is I didn't feel I worked hard enough for the opportunity. So I did therefore I didn't deserve it. And that's what launched all of this life that I've lived since Well and but that's the programming. The programming is I gotta work hard and kill myself to get something. And if I don't, I don't deserve it. That's programming right there.
Ange Dove (04:15)
Right, interesting.
Okay, so you missed that opportunity and you realize...
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you didn't deserve it.
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (04:32)
So what
happens when an opportunity like that business shows up, as much as I I crave to experience that in my life, and it's like I said, the biggest moment in my life at that time, I can't get myself to take the actions to go forward with. And and so it happens in different ways like that. Fear is one you know, but it's all about our programming that we get from the time we're born all the way through our life. And so what happens is is is because I had programming.
Ange Dove (04:35)
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (04:59)
in my subconscious that is that is I have to deserve everything I got. I have to work hard and working hard is how I deserve. You know, that a man's meant to a man's meant to work, support a family and hopefully live with some years in retirement when he's older, you know.
Ange Dove (05:01)
Mm.
Yes.
This was my
programming as well. You have to work hard. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (05:16)
Okay, okay. So so that's so that programming
would not allow me to say yes and go through that excitement and allow that to happen. So now when you have somebody in business like that and and they know what they want, they know that what you want your business to look like, you know what size it is and how you live your life, you know all those things. But
Ange Dove (05:22)
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (05:34)
But the subconscious will not allow you to take those actions. So we see it as procrastination. We see it as self-sabotage. We see it as fear ruling. We see it as all these things. And and even okay, so that all makes sense. So that's really what it is, is help people. The SMT method identifies that programming and then has the tools to quickly shift that. So it's in alignment to what we want, the knowing of what we want.
Ange Dove (05:37)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Mmm. Mmm.
So if we're not in alignment, if the conscious and the subconscious is not in alignment, then you're basically not going to get what you want. You're going to sabotage yourself. Is that right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (06:01)
Mm-hmm.
Eighty-five percent of your results are coming from what's in that programming. So if
there's not alignment, and I found that myself, you know, in in in that area, I found that in other areas of my life. But yeah, so eighty f that's eighty-five percent of our results. So what it is is so now you have this business idea, you develop this plan, the strategy, everything else, and now you go out and you start taking the actions, and at some point you hit the wall. And sometimes it could be sooner.
Ange Dove (06:17)
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (06:32)
Sometimes it could be later. I've talked to many, many people and worked with people who never even got the first stop, the first action taken towards that business that they desire because of it. So then now once we bring that alignment, once we identify shift that programming, which can happen very quickly, and we have that alignment, now all of a sudden, now when we develop that business plan, that business strategy, it's in alignment to what we want.
Ange Dove (06:39)
Right. OK. Yeah.
Yeah. Yes. Yes.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (06:59)
So the
whole thing about and and the way we s the a business owner will see it differently is a business owner who's going on their own and and they have that mismatch, you know, between the the the knowing and the doing, they will go about and it'll be a lot of struggle, it'll be force, it's the anxiety, it's the hard work, the exhaustion, all that stuff and everything. The other way, when you get that alignment going, all of a sudden growing that business becomes exciting and it becomes joyful.
Ange Dove (07:03)
Mm. Mm.
Mm.
Mm.
and
You're in flow,
right? You're in flow and it works. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (07:26)
And exactly, Ang, yes. I know you don't get to
have one, but I'm gonna sip my coffee on that one.
Ange Dove (07:33)
I'm jealous. I'm jealous. I usually have a coffee with me or a cup of tea when I'm doing this, but I haven't today.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (07:42)
Okay,
that's last sip, promise. Maybe. Probably not.
Ange Dove (07:45)
No, knock yourself
out. Knock yourself out. So, okay. So like for me, when I've got two kind of areas, right, when I set up my first business over 20 years ago, I didn't know what I didn't know. I was completely ignorant. I just went ahead and did it. And I just went gung-ho into it, didn't think about it and just did it. But I guess I was an in-line.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (07:49)
Yeah.
Ange Dove (08:12)
in alignment with what I was doing because I found it very easy to do. But I just didn't think I didn't allow myself to think about it. It's just everything happens so fast. Right. And it was completely different from what I was doing before. I'd never set up a business before. No idea. I I was just going living in ignorance. And then I made a mistake. You know, yeah, it's like ignorance is bliss. Right. You don't know what you don't know. So you go ahead and do it. Now had I known what
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (08:21)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Yes, okay. Yes.
Yeah, yeah. Sometimes with bliss. Yeah.
Yeah.
Ange Dove (08:42)
had I known, probably maybe I would have gone into fear and sabotage myself or something, but I didn't know. I was determined this was going to happen. So that was that. But then as I transitioned out from that, the copywriting to the coaching, there was a lot of resistance around that. A lot. This was a whole different carel fish.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (08:47)
Yeah.
Do you
when you say resistance around that, what what how like how did you experience resistance?
Ange Dove (09:11)
So it's like
I knew what I wanted to, I knew what I had to do, but I just wasn't doing it. And I've come up with every excuse as to why I wasn't doing it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (09:15)
Yeah. The procrastination. Yeah. All of a sudden all of a sudden the house needs to be vacuumed right this minute.
The the lawn needs to be cut right now.
Ange Dove (09:26)
And that...
That used to sometimes happen with my copywriting as well because sometimes if I had a job that I didn't particularly enjoy, the subject matter wasn't that interesting or it was maybe quite complicated with lot of information, it would take me some time to sort it out. And so in those instances, I would go and clean the house, which I would never do normally. Right. So that's procrastination. Right. But
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (09:32)
Yeah.
Yeah, yes, yes.
Ange Dove (09:57)
Yeah, so it's like if it's not in alignment, and because for me, I think it was quite like an identity shift as well. I lived 20 years being one way. Right. And then I had to change to being something I thought. Yeah, I thought it was something different. Now I've realized actually it's the same. Right. And it's not a change of identity. It's just an
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (10:12)
That's who you know you to be.
Ange Dove (10:24)
augmentation of it, right, it's an enhancement of who I am. So that's a different way of looking at it. So, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (10:27)
Yes. Yes. Yes. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I yeah,
business owners who have spent time in corporate, like for me, you know, business owners who say spent time in corporate, it as much as we don't want to be in corporate and we want to have our own thing, you know, entrepreneur mindset and such, is there is that well almost like a underlying thing. If I'm not an employee, what am I?
Ange Dove (10:53)
Mm.
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (10:55)
And I deal with a lot of business owners who are still, even though they have their own business, they broke away from corporate, from the the programming from corporate was that I have to I have to I have to show my worthiness. Now here are people who have their own business, who are at a level of business that they've we've grown it into, that they should have hire people to do certain things with it. And and and the question in their mind is, well what value am I bringing then?
Ange Dove (11:04)
Mmm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (11:24)
If I'm hiring people that are better than I am at that, what value am I bringing to it? That's the whole thing in corporate that we have to continuously prove our worth. But what happens is when we break off and create our own business and start up, we're the visionary of that, that the whole director, the whole compass, the whole thing, you know, beacon of that business. You know, that's why people like I always looked up to it, like Henry Ford.
Ange Dove (11:29)
Okay.
Right. Okay. All right.
Mm.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, that's right.
Hmm
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (11:53)
who hired
people better capable of doing things than he was in those areas to build for you know the assumption first assembly line.
Ange Dove (11:58)
Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
And I think that's key. I think that's one of the things as well. Sometimes business owners, when they start a business, they're very reluctant to hire. They want to do it all themselves. And especially if you're, especially if you're, you're, you're the type of business owner that is the, what's the kind of like the mechanic of it. Like you, started the business because you were good at that thing. Right. But at some time you have to let that go and become the business owner and work on the business, not in it.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (12:10)
Yes. And there is a
Yeah. Yeah.
And and that's one of the th yes. Yes. And that's you know, every person that comes from a corporate background that I work with and help b you know, get their business thriving and stuff, I tell them that is we're gonna get especially when they have dual roles going, or somebody who hasn't started the business, they haven't taken that first step, you know, it seems like specializing helping those people. And what I tell is, we're gonna get so busy in you building your business and having fun doing so, you're not gonna have time to go to work anymore.
Ange Dove (12:28)
That's very hard to let go. Yeah. Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
I love
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (12:55)
And that's exactly
what happens time after time after time. And and I've helped clients who are doing two thousand dollars in their b in their in their business and working full time to literally building up the business enough to where they were they could no longer had time to go to work and now their business is doing sixty to sixty five thousand dollars a week in revenue. And you see that growth happen.
Ange Dove (12:59)
I
Yeah.
Yeah, that's fantastic. And then the fact, yeah.
And the fact that you said they're going to have fun. I love that. I mean, that's why do it if you're not going to have fun. Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (13:23)
Yes. Yes. Yeah. It's almost
goes against programming. Even as I tell people that, you know, and I say, Man, how would you feel about your business? How would you feel about like the it being exciting and fun and enjoyable growing your scaling your business? And people will go, that's that's that's not possible. And you know what, Ash? For that person, it's not possible.
Ange Dove (13:31)
I'm just rejoin myself.
Yeah. Yeah.
I've been in corporate, that's never been possible.
Right, yes. Yes.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (13:50)
Because they've already made their final conclusion. And what causes
them to come to that conclusion is the subconscious programming.
Ange Dove (13:56)
Uh-huh.
Right. It's kind of as also going back to the Henry, you mentioned Henry Ford and his well-known quote of, you believe you can or you believe you can't, you're right. Right? Yeah. Yeah. That's my favorite quote.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (14:03)
Yes.
Right. Yes. Yes. Yep. And I've I've I've
lived with experiences on both sides of the Yes, yes. And that's that's what that programming is. So now think about this. Now think about that you y you do something and and and you identify those blocks before you even hit And you shift that so that you have alignment between the conscious mind of what you know you want.
Ange Dove (14:16)
I think we all have.
No.
Mm. Mm.
Right.
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (14:37)
And the actions that you're taking to lead to that, think how much quicker you can scale. Think about how much, and this is one of the things that my clients experience is more freedom. So instead of working harder and working more hours, they actually have more time for other areas of life like their family and the other important things, and they quit missing those events, you know, and and and it becomes enjoyable.
Ange Dove (14:40)
Hmm.
Bye.
Mm. Mm.
Nice.
Yes, which they wanted to set up a business
for in the first place so that they could go to those events and experience. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (15:05)
Yes, and it literally becomes an enjoyable process, an exciting process to grow. That's I
love what I do. Cause I get to help people break through those before they even run up against them.
Ange Dove (15:13)
It shows. Yes. Yes.
So, but that's the thing, right, is like you're helping people navigate that before they actually hit a wall, right, before it becomes a problem. But how do they know before they hit the wall that there is a problem? Do know what I mean?
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (15:28)
Yes.
Well, that's
what happens before they hit the wall they d I mean, we're just going about things. But the moment you have an idea, if if somebody's still working in in in corporate America, I always say corporate, but if somebody's working in corporate and they have a business idea and they don't they can't stand what they do, and I did that for many years and they can't stand what they do, but they're not acting on that and moving forward in that. There's some kind of programming going on that's that's halting them.
Ange Dove (15:41)
Yeah.
Mm, mm.
But there's also, think, as well there, the pain isn't great enough for them to make the move. The pain has got to be greater.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (16:07)
Pain is a great I I hate to say
this. I I really don't like this at all, but pain is a great motivator. But here's the thing: pain is a great motivator because it it will push us to doing things, right? We lose a job in corporate, we can't find another job. Now all of a sudden you hear us somebody who's who to who, you know, has a you know $10 million business that they built because of that event. Pain will push us into doing things. The
Ange Dove (16:13)
Yeah.
Mm, mm, mm, yeah. Mm.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yes.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (16:35)
The other way of doing it, and this is how the SMT specializes, is is we develop what I is called a dynamic vision of that business, of the finished state, of the level it's at, of how you live your life, of the things you do. And it's very, very detailed, it's very complex. And it's i as far as like the power of it and such. And now all of a sudden, instead of being pushed by our pain, we're pulled by our vision. The whole different scenario.
Ange Dove (16:39)
Hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Alright.
Yeah. Nice. So tell me about that
SMT method then. How does, just describe what that is so we can understand.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (17:05)
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, the SMT method is subconscious mindset training and it's all about
identifying that programming and shifting it. So we come out of the gate developing what the SMT method refers to as a dynamic vision. We look at that business, but not just the business in itself, the business as a whole in our life. We look at health and well-being, we look at our vocation and what we're doing for our life work. We look at our relationships, we look at our time, money for you, and we build that into a vision. It's it's very it has a lot of clarity in what it looks like, but it also has
Ange Dove (17:18)
Mm.
Hmm. Hmm. Hmm.
Mmm.
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (17:36)
a lot of feeling tone like what's it feel like to be that person living that business waking up how do you wake up in the morning how do you go to bed and we get really detailed with it so now instead of you know like like okay we're going out to build a business and we run into this situation and this circumstance and things like that you know and it seems like we're hitting walls constantly now what we do is we we utilize that vision with the tools of the SMT method we utilize that vision as the reality that we focus on in life
Ange Dove (17:53)
Mm. Mm.
Right. Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (18:05)
So
as we do that, all of a sudden those situations and circumstances that seem like walls are just little speed bumps. It's just what it looks like as the vision is unfolding. And now we take that to the next level. And now we're through this whole process, even developing the vision, we're identifying programming causing limitation.
Ange Dove (18:11)
Okay. Nice. Nice.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (18:25)
'Cause it but it butts us up against it. It butts us up against things like my programming was, you know, or another one for me was, you know, money doesn't grow on trees. And I'm old enough that that it I'm old enough that the phrase that was used is what do you think we are, the Rockefellers? Where today it would be somebody, you know, but but you know, Elon Musk or something like that. But yeah, and and so, you know, I I but really, if you think about it.
Ange Dove (18:34)
I heard that all the time.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (18:50)
Money is paper, it grows on trees. It literally grows on trees, right? So so it's taking that problem.
Ange Dove (18:52)
Yes!
Because I can't on moving until
that money doesn't grow on trees and so yes it does.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (18:59)
Yeah,
yeah. You know the other one I never understood just because you just is you want your cake and eat it too. What the heck is the purpose of having cake if I can't flip flip and eat it, right? I never understood that. Even as a kid I didn't understand that. you want to have your cake and eat it too. Well, yeah. Yeah, I mean that's how they go together.
Ange Dove (19:06)
Yeah.
yeah, I'm just gonna say look at
it.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (19:20)
Yeah.
But but yeah, so what happens with that? So now as we start marching down the avenue, we start identifying those things before we actually run into because what it does, what the SMT method does, it it accelerates that programming that's causing limitation through the process. So now we don't have to face it in our actions and things like that. We're in our procrastinations and our things. And and and now we can identify those and shift those. And then as we do so, now think about this. Now you're in alignment, right? You have a vision, you have your conscious mind and subconscious mind all
Ange Dove (19:34)
Bye.
Mm. Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (19:50)
working together now develop your business plan and your strategy for that business and it's gonna be a whole different yeah a whole different strategy
Ange Dove (19:54)
Right. With that frame of mind that you have. Yes. Yeah.
And as you said, that change can happen very quickly. It can be instant. Right? I was speaking to some family members about this one time, because there's different types of methods that are used, right? And there's a tapping method I've been through. You know that? I'm tapping. And...
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (20:06)
Yes. Yes.
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah for you. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ange Dove (20:22)
So I went through something like that and partly on the fear of heights, right? I've got a fear of heights, which is quite rational, I think. It's not any rational. I think that's very rational. And it just straight away, I didn't have that fear anymore. And I could go up like glass elevators and not feel a thing, whereas I used to feel like physically sick, right? Yeah, so that changed that immediately.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (20:28)
Okay. Okay.
Yeah, okay, okay.
Yes.
Ange Dove (20:53)
And
they wouldn't believe me. They wouldn't believe me. It's all in your mind. It's all in your mind. But it is something that switches in the brain, right? Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (21:02)
It it is, it is. And and I'll tell you, like, I I had similar, like I had my pilot's license and I flown a lot when I was in corporate and stuff. So I I
I but I had something with heights and I couldn't figure it out. So the way I handled it is I stepped into that fear and I ran off of a two thousand foot mountaintop on a strapped to a hang lagger. And I realized in that first launch, I'm not afraid of heights. I'm afraid of falling.
Ange Dove (21:28)
Yeah, yeah, that was mine.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (21:29)
I am I
am not the guy who's gonna bungee jump. I'm not the guy who's gonna jump out of an airplane, but hand gliding allows me to soar and and and and and and just fly through the air. I feel like an eagle when I'm when I'm hand gliding and it so it allows me and then just like trust a glider to do what it's designed to do, fly.
Ange Dove (21:37)
So yeah, I like that.
Yeah.
I've always had the thought of if I was to come back as an animal, I'd be a bird. I'd be a bird. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. How wonderful to be able to live your life like that,
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (21:55)
Yes. Yeah, me too. E eagle. Yeah, that's my spiritual animal and something. Yeah, so but yeah. So I mean that you know, and and and and and
you know, we know that fear is false evidence appearing real. There's nothing real about the fear. Now, that's different than you know, I live in the mountains of South Carolina, so that's different as if I see a bear walking up my driveway and stuff. You know, that's a different you know, that but but most of our fears never equate to anything.
Ange Dove (22:09)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, that's real fair.
Exactly, exactly. We always imagine the worst case scenario and it never happens.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (22:24)
But but they but they will rob us. They will Right, and they but the
those fears that will never happen rob us of decades of our life if we let it.
Ange Dove (22:34)
Yeah. Yes. Yes.
Yes. Yeah. And then so many times I've had the experience of, wish I'd done this sooner. Why didn't I do this sooner? And you know when you've done it. And also I have the awareness, I guess, of knowing that when I'm afraid of something,
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (22:49)
That's it.
Ange Dove (22:59)
as you say, it's fear, it's not real, right? And I know that when I look back on everything, I say, you've succeeded in everything you've done. Why would this be any different? Right? Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (23:02)
Right.
That was one of my other ones, Ang.
I got into Corporate America, I got into sales, and it took me quite a few years to achieve things at you know, developing territories, going out on the road, traveling three, four thousand miles a week and things like that. It took me years to do that, and I always thought there was something the matter with me. Because I'm seeing other people doing it so easily and they're going out and taking Fridays off and Mondays off and things like that, and I'm killing myself and barely making a mark. And it's when I found this out.
Ange Dove (23:23)
Yeah.
Mm.
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (23:37)
And started looking at that programming. And I had to get help doing it. I mean, I didn't have a process like an SMT method to follow when I started this.
Ange Dove (23:44)
So how
did this happen for you? How did you get into this? When did you realize you needed help? then how did you find it? When you didn't take that business. Okay.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (23:49)
Yeah, I was I well I told you it's it started at twenty-two with that business. And once I realized that I didn't do it because of that, I
knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what it was. And then I continued Well, I I looked for a decade. I I wouldn't I I took all kinds of coaching programs and things like that. And and I would go through it and invest my time, effort, resources into it and really deep dive into it. And at the end I'd learn things, but I it wouldn't it wouldn't bring differences changes in my results.
Ange Dove (23:59)
So how did you find the solution then?
Right. Yeah.
Mm. Mm.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (24:19)
And so
I would think there was something the matter with me. And every time something like that happened, it would be more something the matter with me. Now, as I started going further and I was in sales for probably almost a decade, and I I was just fearful all the time of getting let go because I wasn't hitting the mark and things like that. I finally was like, Man, I I I don't know what to do. Maybe I met I was born, you know, I I was raised in in a in a very low income blue collar family in Detroit, Michigan.
Ange Dove (24:35)
Yeah.
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (24:46)
So the programming was always that I'm just gonna work with my hands, I'm gonna be in blue collar my whole life. And and you know, so I came out of high school cleaning oils out of machines and things like that, you know. And so, so the constant thing was, well, you can't do this. You're supposed to be here. And and me fighting against that, that's where it started. That business opportunity with that construction company was was a later on would become a very big aha moment for me.
Ange Dove (24:54)
Right, right.
Mm. Mm.
Yes.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (25:16)
And so now I get into my 30s and I'm fearful all the time. I had a young son and stuff like that. And I'm always worried about getting let go. I'm always constantly have that battle of going, maybe I should just go back and get a job in college. You know, and and that and and so so in doing that, all of a sudden I start I came across something. It was by Joseph Murphy about this the the subconscious mind, and I read it.
Ange Dove (25:28)
Hmm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (25:42)
And I connected with it so deeply, it was like it was written for me. And so as I as I started understanding and deep diving that, and then that broadened into the whole thing of, you know, and so I continued to follow that. And as I did, I started understanding, and then I could start seeing things like, I I I don't feel I deserve.
Ange Dove (25:46)
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (26:04)
to live in abundance, that deserving. I don't feel like I, you know, for it for me to be just be open to flow, that's that's and and I started noticing those things. Well then it took me a few years to go find somebody that could help me because I couldn't even I didn't even know some of those things.
Ange Dove (26:06)
Right.
Mm, mm, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (26:22)
So now
I find somebody that can help me at least point those out so I understand that's 'cause I couldn't do it by myself. I couldn't figure out what that programming was because it seems so normal to live through that program.
Ange Dove (26:34)
Yeah, because you're
looking from your perspective and that's all you've ever known. Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (26:37)
And that's
a big part of what this is, is it's it's it's it's shifting our perceptions. And so as I did this, now all of a sudden I go from barely scraping by within a few a year, year and a half of that to landing $18 million, $22 million, $20, largest was a $25 million year over year contract for new business. Now all of a sudden I go up into management.
Ange Dove (26:40)
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Mm. Mm.
Bye.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (27:02)
I have these tools. I have no thought of developing an SMT method. I'm in corporate. I'm, you know, now I'm a vice president of sales. And I started using the same tools that I kind of had that I use on my team. And I could see people that were, you know, in the same position I was, or maybe even a little bit better. And all of a sudden they're being rapidly elevating to top producers within the organization. And so as it's
Ange Dove (27:13)
Right.
Okay, so you can see the impact of it.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (27:27)
As that started
happening and then I helped a company, the last company that I helped that was in bankruptcy. And I say this and it's funny, but every gray hair I have came from that. Because I I just there were three hundred and seventy employees that were down to running three days a month operations. I'd go home Friday and I wouldn't have a recharging weekend. I would just be anxious the whole time because I I tried to figure out what do I do to help.
explode sales so that I could you know and and and how can I fix this, you know? And and so I stayed with it for my contract. I stayed with it until we got new owners and they came in and dumped 12 million dollars in the organization and then went instantly from three day a month to a five day a week operation and stuff. And I w it just aged me so much. Like I understand presidents now two years into office how they're just all gray, you know, and you can see the aging accelerate. That's how I felt and that's how I I I mean if you look at pictures you can see that.
Ange Dove (28:01)
Right.
Okay.
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (28:28)
And I was
like, I know, okay, I I don't want to do this anymore. I was already had some people coming to me because of the tools, because of what my sales, you know, team had achieved that were coming to me and they were small business owners and stuff and I started helping them on the side. And it was like, man, so I I resigned from there, moved down to the mountains of South Carolina to live how I always wanted to. And I've been scaling this business ever since and helping I don't even know how many hundreds of people.
Ange Dove (28:39)
Yeah. Right.
Fantastic.
Fantastic. That is wonderful. So you help them like online now, I guess, as well.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (29:00)
I work
I work all different ways. However, you know, like like because I work with people all over the United States, so I don't travel, you know, but there there's times we get together, I I try to meet with every client that I work with so we get pace ti you know, to see each other. But yeah, then between the coaching calls, between the the the SMT has its own portal with the modules for section as we go through it so it's got the flow through it and such.
Ange Dove (29:05)
Right.
Okay.
Nice, nice. So are you able to give us some examples of like case study, like stories of people you've helped? there anything that's really surprised you over time?
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (29:33)
yeah. Yeah. You know, everybody always talks about this
the everybody always talks about the explosion, right? The biggest one. So I I'll start with that. Her name was Regina. She had a business. She was seven point five million dollars was her thirteen year high. She was in business for thirteen years. That was the highest she had done. She wanted to get to ten million dollars. she was spiraling downward when we met. And and and had such a hard time even just keeping up when it we met. She said
Ange Dove (29:53)
Right.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (30:02)
Joseph, I I don't even think I have time to talk to you every week. So we decided we'd start working together. Within 12 months, her business bypassed $22 million from 7.5. During that year of growth, it was the first year of her adult life that she took five weeks of vacation during that year of growth. And she has maintained that now for over eight years that she stays at that higher level. That that's one person. Go ahead.
Ange Dove (30:05)
Ha ha ha ha.
Bye.
So what, right,
what was her, what was her limiting belief for her block then?
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (30:34)
The multiples. And every client I work with has multiples. one one of the big ones there was r related to mine is is is you gotta work hard to get ahead.
Ange Dove (30:36)
Okay.
Bye.
Mm. Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (30:46)
You gotta really
put your you know, and she was. She was not spending any time with her family, she had a big family, not not doing things, even like her own health care, like as far as exercise and the things she enjoyed doing. She had given up all of those things following that business. And here's one of the other traps that I see so many people stuck in with business is is I'll kill myself now for one day and get it into place and then do it.
Ange Dove (30:56)
Yeah. Yeah.
Hmm.
Yeah, by that time you're dead. Yeah, yeah, they literally killed themselves.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (31:13)
And so many of those people, Ange, never get to that one day. And so what I and
that yeah and so what I when I help somebody and we we the the the journey becomes enjoyable, exciting for that growth and and now that now we get to live that one day while we're building our business. You know, but I've had clients I told you the one I had clients who were doing a couple thousand dollars a month who are now doing
Ange Dove (31:33)
Nice, nice.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (31:39)
you know, sixty to sixty-five thousand dollars a week in revenue. He his his big hang up along the way, multiple, but the really big one was that
Ange Dove (31:42)
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (31:48)
Once once my whole thing is is with the SMT is we we we get into alignment, we get that stuff going, we get strategy, we develop systems of accelerating habits that are unique to that individual. I don't tell any of my clients what to do. I help them find their avenues for it. And so as we do this now and we're doing those, which is bringing up greater, you know, growth, more accelerated growth in the business and such. And and so then we have to build a team, right, to cover for that growth. And and his whole thing was every time.
Ange Dove (31:59)
Okay. Bye.
Right.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (32:18)
time he hired somebody, he was like, Well if I hire somebody to do that, what's my value? What value am I bringing? And it took a little while to identify all and and shift those. And when I say a little while, a couple of months, but as as we shifted that, now all of a sudden he realizes he's the visionary.
Ange Dove (32:34)
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (32:34)
of this business. He's
the one, he's not even steering the ship. He's deciding where the ship is going to go and how big it's going to grow. And and now that he's done this, now we've moved into another area now where he's starting to acquire similar companies to build his empire based on on that way. So he's already got saturation and and coverage throughout now it's adding yeah. So I mean so and there's so many ways of doing that. I've taken wholesalers who were doing maybe a hundred and thirty thousand dollars when I met him.
Ange Dove (32:41)
Yeah, then his team is going to do that.
Wow.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (33:04)
and
and they they wanted to get to two million dollars. They called me in March, the end of March, and said, I've already crossed a million. So now their vision is three million dollars for this year. And so we start seeing these things happening. But one of the things that's really dear to my heart
Ange Dove (33:08)
you
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (33:26)
Is that we get to enjoy that period of growth. When I was developing territories in that place, so I have one son, he's 30 years old, and I just adore this child. We had two pregnancies before him, where there were births at 24, 25 weeks, and they would live on equipment and stuff like that for hours and pass away. And then my son was born, and then we had two more, like the first two. So when I say I adore my son, like
Ange Dove (33:48)
Right. Mm-hmm. Mm.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (33:54)
I I guess
everybody adores their children. I know that, but that's where it's coming from for me. So on his first birthday, I wasn't home celebrating this child that I absolutely adore and is a miracle in my life. I was in Indiana trying to build a sales territory because that's what my job was. And so that programming of a a man gets a job, supports a family, and hopefully lives long enough to enjoy some retirement, you know, that had me hook, line, and sinker.
Ange Dove (33:58)
with a gift.
Mm.
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (34:21)
And so now today, when I get the one the gentleman at sixty to sixty five thousand dollars a week, he gets to coach his son's football team in school and stuff. And so when people, you know, when I see people get to do that, man, that just so so impactful in my own heart to get to see that happen.
Ange Dove (34:28)
Nice. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. And I think as well, we tend to, as I said, because we are so blinkered, we kind of live our lives like robots in a way, just we're on autopilot a lot of the time, we don't see what's going on. Right. And during COVID, I guess COVID made everyone stop and think I think, right. And during COVID, I just remember being in my kitchen one morning and going, Oh, actually, I don't have to be working every minute of the day, just because I'm awake.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (34:55)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Ange Dove (35:06)
Right. That realization
was huge.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (35:09)
So when you say it
when you say yeah, when you say about picking up on that, that's programming right there. And and and I I fully one hundred percent agree with you is we do live autopilot, but we do live robotically. And the in the in a lot of the systems we follow that we're we're we're led to lead up to that. If you and I are in in the in the algebra class,
Ange Dove (35:14)
Hmm.
Mm.
Mm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (35:33)
And we're giving one of those problems and I show all every step of the works in there and everything else. And I get to the final answer and I turn it in. I get a hundred percent. Now, if you come along and you are going through that and you come up with some shortcuts.
that help you get through that problem quicker, but you come up with the correct answer, you get marked down because you didn't show out the So when you look at our life, when you look at, you know, it and it goes across the board. I'm using just that school analogy, but it's every you know, and so what it is and and the people giving us our programming, like our parents and stuff, the
Ange Dove (35:52)
Yes, yes, you just have to work it, right? Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (36:06)
They're doing the best they're can do for us, but they're coming from where they are, from what they've experienced from their programming. And that's why you see generation after generation after generation. So when you look at like what I get to do is help people break those generational chains in their life and change that for all the generations that follow them. So there's even legacy in in you know in doing that.
Ange Dove (36:08)
Yeah. Yes. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Right. Yeah.
Yeah, so it's not going to be repeated
in the next generation. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (36:34)
Yes.
Ange Dove (36:36)
nice nice that's so powerful actually that's
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (36:39)
And there's a quote I love by Wallace Wallace, and it goes to when you say, but we're just living unconsciously, is you know, he says it if you are not consciously now, when I say consciously, I'm saying you have that alignment between the knowing and doing, the alignment between the conscious of knowing what you want and the subconscious of doing it. If you're not consciously choosing to be rich, excellent, and healthy, then you are unconsciously choosing to be poor.
Ange Dove (36:42)
huh.
Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm.
Mmm. Mmm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (37:07)
Mediocre and unhealthy.
Ange Dove (37:12)
okay, say that again.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (37:14)
If you are not consciously choosing to be rich, excellent, and healthy, then you are unconsciously choosing to be poor, mediocre, and unhealthy.
So we live unconsciously, we have this people call it the comfort zone. People call it, you know, living from that programming alone. And it feels like right living, living from that programming. But it's got every hang up. And when I talk about that programming, what builds into that programming is our patterns, our paradigms, our belief systems, our habits.
Ange Dove (37:42)
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (37:53)
All of that is built into that programming and it just plays over and over and over. It's the voice we hear in our head, but more importantly, it's what triggers brainwaves to the actions we take or don't take, like I said earlier. So it will not let us take an action, it would not let me take an action to say yes to that construction company and that huge opportunity that showed up in my life. Something will stop it from happening.
Ange Dove (38:13)
Mm. Mm. Mm.
Bye.
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (38:21)
And we don't even understand what it is. So when I talk to somebody who's starting to go ahead.
Ange Dove (38:24)
Or
would it also be a case of maybe you could have taken it, you could have taken that opportunity, but you would have screwed it up if you had taken it because you weren't ready? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (38:38)
Well, back then, probably because some other programming would have came up and and it and stuff. Today it's
so awesome 'cause I've like we get to there's avenues like the SMT method that allow us to to to go through that. You know, because we can't get around it, we can't get above it or below it, but we can go through it and most times it's paper thin as we do. And then shifting that is so quickly and it just opens up the door.
Ange Dove (38:51)
Right.
All right.
OK.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (39:04)
And
one of the things I'll tell people is is is one of the requirements for me to work with somebody is they have to have what I call a beginner mindset.
Ange Dove (39:10)
Mm.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (39:15)
We're so stuck in our robotic thinking and living unconsciously, like you said perfectly, it that that we don't even realize that we're we're stepping on our own opportunities. We're stepping over our own opportunities. So when I tell people about somebody growing their business and how they've grown it, you know, for and and I mean it could be anyways, like the one fifty to to pass over a million dollars in March, you know, when they'll go, Well, that's not that that's impossible.
Ange Dove (39:19)
Yeah.
Mm. Mm.
Mm, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (39:42)
Like Henry Ford's quote, it will always be impossible for them. So what I do is help them identify that and shift that. And now all of a sudden it's like, what if that is a possibility in my life? So the way I define a beginner mindset, we all know a lot, right? Maybe not as much as teenagers, but you know, once we get into our 20s, we all we all know a lot just from life experience, which builds that program. A beginner mindset is what can I take from this?
Ange Dove (39:45)
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yes.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (40:07)
And add to what I already know. That's a beginner mindset to me. Exactly. Yes. Yes. Yeah. One of the ways I like to describe it is being open to the what-ifs. What if I could break away from corporate? What if I could scale this business and enjoy the process of doing so? What if I could, whatever that is?
Ange Dove (40:07)
Hmm.
Right. Just being open to the possibilities, right? Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
And
that's such an important phrase that's used in copywriting all the time when you're trying to persuade people to imagine that, that what if, yeah, yeah, it's really huge. Yeah. So I think as well, what we, you talked about the inner voice, right, that talks to us, right? The words that we tell ourselves, the way that we talk to ourselves is so important as well, Not to use that negative, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (40:36)
What if Yeah.
And that's the and that's yeah.
And that's from the conscious side. Right? In our conscious mind, we have control over our conscious mind.
Ange Dove (40:57)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (41:02)
We have control over the words we use, the thoughts we entertain, the people we hang out with, what we read, you know, like all
that stuff we have we have control. So so one of the things with the SMT method is now we're working on the on the reprogramming, but part of the thing we do with that is is we have there's tools and and things in play where we start looking and and I and noticing what we're noticing. We start noticing when I'm beating myself up. We start noticing not me, you know, who whatever that may be for the person. We start noticing when I'm going, well, I can't do that.
Ange Dove (41:09)
Yeah.
Mm.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (41:33)
We start noticing those things are going, you know, like like I I've never done that before, like I don't know what that's like. And it touches that fear. We start noticing those things because if we don't notice it, we can't do anything different. So when we notice it, then we can bring about change to that and experience things differently.
Ange Dove (41:32)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Choose your words carefully.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (41:57)
Yes. And eventually what happens though is it's not like
we have to go through the rest of our life watching every single word we say before we say it and things like that. It it's like it's like any other muscle of the body, you know. When I go to the gym, I train my arms so that, you know, I get that pump and what I want in growth and stuff. It's the same thing with this stuff. As we use the tools more and implement, it becomes it it becomes automatically like how we are where we operate from. So it's not something that we're continually, you know, every word we use and stuff.
Ange Dove (42:11)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yes, yeah, it's practice, Yeah,
yeah, so it becomes part of you as you start to use it,
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (42:30)
Well well
yes, but one of the things I will tell you multiple clients have told me is when we start doing this work within a short period of time of starting to work together, they'll start going, you know, I don't like watching the news every night now. You know, I don't like this group of people that I hung out with for a long time because it just drags me down. And they start noticing those things. So we start realigning to what fits for that individual.
Ange Dove (42:45)
You
Mmm. Mmm.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. Because you're always growing, you're always developing and, you know, so it's a fascinating topic and I think what you're doing is just, yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (43:05)
You know that I I learned a long time ago,
our life in this stuff is like a train going uphill. As long as we keep moving forward, even if it's inch by inch, we continue going. The moment we stop, just like a train on an incline, we have to go backwards before we can go forwards again.
Ange Dove (43:13)
huh.
Right.
Right, right. So that's what you're building basically. You're building them up from, build them down to build them back up,
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (43:32)
Yeah. Well
Yeah, I'm ultimately ultimately what I'm doing is helping people achieve what their what their their visions are for their life. And do and have fun doing so.
Ange Dove (43:40)
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. And I like what you said at the very beginning as well of not doing the planning until you're in that mindset, right? Once you've got that, yeah, when you get aligned, then do the planning, then it's going to all be in alignment with what you're going to do moving forward, right? I love it. love it. Yeah.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (43:50)
Yeah, when you get a line.
Yeah.
Yes. Yes. Otherwise you're always struggling. You're always struggling against that programming. So once you identify and align the programming, now all of a sudden, now when you're developing, now you can see a bigger opportunity, you can see a bigger potential, you can see where things can flow. Like you, I love that word, where things can flow. Now all of a sudden, when you build that, all of a sudden you it's a whole different plan that you're following. It's a whole different strategy that you've built. Right. It is, it is.
Ange Dove (44:13)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, and it's not a struggle as well, And it's fun!
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (44:27)
man, I love building bus I love seeing my clients have like breakthroughs and things like that and seeing them, you know, and and yeah.
Ange Dove (44:33)
I think it's just such
a gift of a, I say job, it's not really a job, a job that you do is just such a gift because you see, you change lives, right? You change lives.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (44:44)
Yes, absolutely. And you know, I mean you do the same thing. So yeah. So I mean
w God, there's times I somebody have a breakthrough, I'll have tears in my eyes. I'll be so excited for that person and and and that I get to be a part of this in their life.
Ange Dove (44:56)
Yeah, I love that. love that. So Joseph, where can we send people to find out more about your work and if they're interested to work with you? Yeah, I'll the link in on.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (45:04)
So I'm I'm sure we'll have my website and things like that on you know on here and so
but the one thing anybody can do, Ange, is anybody can reach out to me directly at at smtmethod.com and they can schedule a 10-15 minute call with me where if you're getting ready to go into business and something's stopping you, if you're in that process or wherever you're at, it's just a it's just the whole thing is set to serve.
Ange Dove (45:11)
Uh-huh.
I don't
Right.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (45:29)
There's not a
Ange Dove (45:29)
OK.
Dr. Joseph Drolshagen (45:30)
